Building a Sustainable Future: OKI and FortisBC's Collaboration on Home Energy Efficiency
FortisBC and Okanagan Insulation Services (OKI) are teaming up for the Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot Program, targeting 20 homes and four multi-unit structures in British Columbia. OKI will contribute expertise in home insulation upgrades for selected projects in Kelowna and Kamloops. Meagan Meyer, OKI Project Manager, is excited about the collaboration, highlighting the importance of quality insulation for energy efficiency.
The pilot aims to enhance older homes' efficiency by addressing insulation, windows, and mechanical systems. Meyer emphasizes the significance of proper insulation, citing instances where pre-1990 structures lack the necessary insulation in attics. The initiative aligns with FortisBC's goal to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, potentially cutting homeowner energy use by 50 percent.
OKI emphasizes the educational role in promoting insulation upgrades and guides homeowners in making informed choices. Registered with the Home Renovation Rebate Program, OKI can help secure substantial rebates, such as those from FortisBC and BC Hydro programs, offering savings of up to $5,500 and additional grants through the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
As OKI anticipates the 2 Interior BC projects, coinciding with a move to a new central office on Totem Avenue, homeowners are encouraged to explore insulation upgrades for year-round comfort and potential savings. Meyer notes, "Whenever you get it done, it’s never too late," emphasizing the enduring benefits of modern home insulation.
