Prevent Air Leakage from Your Exterior Walls
From basement insulation to exterior wall solutions, we create a robust air barrier within your wall cavities, eliminating pesky air leaks and ensuring top-notch exterior insulation. Trust us to optimize your home's comfort, efficiency, and savings by preventing air leakage and enhancing insulation in critical areas.
DIY vs Pro Wall Insulation
People often underestimate the technical expertise and knowledge required to properly install wall insulation and vapor barriers.
With today's stringent building codes for air sealing, it's unlikely that a first time DIYer will achieve code-compliant levels of air sealing in exterior wall applications.
Since exterior walls can be responsible for up to 20% of your home's heat loss, it's critical to achieve sufficient levels of air sealing.
Small, overlooked gaps in insulation can have the same cumulative effect as leaving your window open all the time – seriously undermining your home's energy efficiency.
Exterior Wall Insulation Solutions
For exterior wall insulation, we recommend fiberglass batts or spray foam insulation, depending on the application and required R-value.
Fiberglass batts are the most cost-effective insulation product available. When combined with an expertly-applied vapor barrier with caulking every seam and opening, it creates an air-tight insulation solution.
Interior Wall Insulation Solutions
When it comes to insulating your interior walls, we suggest either fiberglass batt or mineral fiber batt insulation. Both materials are excellent for sound dampening, have fire-resistant qualities, and excellent R-values, making them ideal solutions for suites or multi-family construction.
Retrofitting Your Wall Insulation
If you are retrofitting old framing – like 2x4 walls – or you have plumbing in your exterior walls, then your spray foam is your best insulation solution. It offers the most R-value per inch, and serves as an effective all-in-one insulator and vapor barrier.
R-Value & LTTR for Wall Insulation
Understanding R-value is crucial when choosing wall insulation for your home or building.
R-value measures an insulation product's ability to resist heat flow, with higher values indicating better performance. Different insulation materials have varying R-values based on type, thickness, and density.
Using insulation materials with higher R-values can reduce your energy consumption and help you maintain consistent, comfortable indoor temperatures.
Common insulation materials include fiberglass batts (R8 to R50), mineral fiber batts (R10 to R32), spray foam (variable thickness with approximately R5 per inch), and loose-fill fiberglass (R3 per inch).
When evaluating an insulation solution, you should also consider its long-term thermal resistance (LTTR), which measures the product's ability to maintain its R-value over time.
